SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:
The Toledo Fire and Rescue Department's (TFRD) application for financial assistance submitted under the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant has been approved in the amount of $2,943,840. The City of Toledo is NOT required to contribute a cost match. The money has been awarded to TFRD for hiring through the SAFER Program to hire ten (10) firefighters for the March 2021 recruit class. This recruit class, (# 294) is now budgeted for fifty firefighters with forty funded by the General Fund, and ten funded by the SAFER Grant
During the grant period of performance (3 years), TFRD is required to incur no layoffs, fill all SAFER-funded positions and maintain the operational staffing at the level that existed on the date of award.
