SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:
The Division of Engineering Services is requesting authorization to expend up to $200,000 from the 2017 Matches & Planning program, in which this expenditure was anticipated and budgeted, to fund the local share of costs to design the roundabouts at the Front/Millard and the Millard/Tiffin intersections. This is part of the agreed upon street improvements to be provided by a partnership of the City of Toledo and the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority (Port) adjacent to and related to the new hot briquetted iron plant being constructed by Cliffs Natural Resources, Inc. in East Toledo. The Port has received grants for construction of these roadway improvements and will combine those funds with a previous grant the City had received for resurfacing and repair of Front from Millard to I-280 to complete the roadway improvements that are part of the Cliffs Project. The Port will take the lead in administering the construction contracts and will provide matching funds for the resurfacing grant thereby reducing the City's needed funding commitment for the project to the $200,000 noted. As part of that effort they are requesting that the city provide the local match for design of the roundabout portion of the project. The necessary money is budgeted and was anticipated.
