Title

Recognizing Jeff and Tami Mentel for The Point Place/Shoreland Holiday Float for many years of giving back to the community and a sense of Holiday spirit

Summary

WHEREAS, Jeff Mentel began creating floats in 2004, starting in the back of Point Place, the float made its way through the 149th Street neighborhood, distributing candy and gifts to local children; and

WHEREAS, As the years went by, the float grew larger and by December 2014, Jeff expanded its reach, traveling throughout the Point Place / Shoreland community alongside Santa Claus, handing out candy canes and small toys to kids; the float participates in the Point Place parades and makes an annual trip to Ida, Michigan, where it has garnered numerous awards in the region's largest Christmas parade; and

WHEREAS, Jeff and Tami Mentel dedicate their own time and resources to build and maintain the float, while also utilizing generous community donations to buy toys and candy each year; in 2023, the community faced disappointment when the tornado storm damage prevented the float from making its rounds, however, repairs were successfully completed for 2024, allowing nearly a thousand children to visit Santa and receive gifts; and

NOW THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo that:

SECTION 1.  Jeff and Tami uphold the cherished tradition in the Point Place Shoreland community, spreading Christmas joy and witnessing the delight of children and many adults as they sit on Santa's lap to receive candy and a toy.
