Recognizing Public Utilities Director Ed Moore’s 30 years of exemplary service to the City of Toledo.
Summary
WHEREAS, Ed Moore’s dedication as a public servant spans 30 years working for the City of Toledo, and his talents touched numerous agencies, divisions and advancing positions, bringing innovation, efficiencies and surmounting numerous challenges facing the public works of our City; and
WHEREAS, Ed began his education in the U.S. Navy in September 1984; and during his Naval career, was responsible for navigational duties and plotting the ship’s course at only 21 years old, Ed was one of the youngest ever to qualify for Officer of the Deck, responsible for the safety and well-being of the on-duty crew; and
WHEREAS, Ed returned home and started attending Davis College to obtain his Associate Degree graduating in 1992 while working full time and raising a family; and
WHEREAS, Ed began his career with the City in 1992 as a Utility Worker, then, after 15 years of hands-on experience, Ed advanced into supervisory roles starting in January 2007, when he was named Commissioner of Sewer and Drainage Services; and
WHEREAS, in 2007, Ed continued his education graduating in 2013, while he was the Director of Public Service, with his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toledo in Construction Engineering Technology; and the following year, Ed became Director of Public Utilities (DPU). Public Utilities, overseeing approximately 700 employees; and.
WHEREAS, Ed’s leadership and solutions brought about advancements in community demolitions, flood management; efficiencies and numerous improvements to the safety, sustainability and economic viability of the City’s water utility, all the while overcoming fiscal constraints to ensure both infrastructure and financial improvements for the City, as well as proper stewardship of taxpayer dollars; and
WHEREAS, even more important, Ed’s focus is always on serving the citizens of our community as well as those employed by the City who support our daily public works; and
WHEREAS, Under Eds leadership, DPU has a strong commitment to Community Outreach throughout Toledo and its regional partners as evidenced by his work establishing the Regional Water Authority, his involvement in the Water Affordability & Consumer Protection task force, the establishment of Engage Toledo, as well as his latest herculean task of implementing the Automated Meter Infrastructure conversion; and Ed encouraged this by providing appropriate resources and activities to educate and engage with the community we serve; and
WHEREAS, Ed is well respected by all who work with and for him such as: Calvin Harris, Manager of Sewer & Drainage Service found that “Ed provided support, trust, friendship, and instilled confidence in me that enabled me to develop in a way that not only benefited me, but my employees, the department, and the residents as well;” Amy Wood who began working with Ed as his Manager in 2004 said, “Ed has a way of talking to people that some people just cannot accomplish. He makes you realize that you really can handle things differently and get better results without ever raising his voice;” and Doug Stephens, Director of the Department of Transportation, found that “Ed Moore is a mentor, visionary, role model, and leader. He has inspired people to work hard and always strive for success;”
NOW THEREFORE, Be it resolved that:
SECTION 1. That Ed Moore is recognized for the 30 years of service to the City of Toledo and for his dedication to personal education, cultivation and development of expertise in his team and operational and service excellence for the residents of Toledo.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
