Title

Recognizing and congratulating the Toledo Firefighter Marcus Waugh for winning the 2024 World’s Strongest Firefighter competition, and for representing Toledo in a truly positive light with great honor and pride.

Summary

WHEREAS, Toledo Firefighter Marcus Waugh won the 2024 World’s Strongest Firefighter competition on March 2 at the 2024 Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio; and

WHEREAS, Firefighter Waugh had his mind set on winning the 2024 edition of the World's Strongest Firefighter after missing out on the previous year's competition, where he was one of 120 firefighters to compete in the two-day event, and one of 18 finalists to move on to the final four events on the second day of competition; and

WHEREAS, Firefighter Waugh had a devastating Achilles injury, which left concern if he would be able to continue his firefighting career, let alone walk again; after choosing to have surgery, with rehabilitation and a full recovery, he continued to be intensely driven and willing to push his body to the limit and made it his mission to return to competition; and

WHEREAS, Firefighter Waugh participated in a strongman and powerlifting event in 2017, winning both; in 2020, he won second place in the world at the 275-pound weight class in powerlifting when he competed on stage with “The Arnold”; and then in 2022, he finished in third place in the World's Strongest Firefighter competition; and

WHEREAS, Firefighter Waugh’s initial aspirations were to play in the NFL, and never imagined this would be his journey; he is enjoying every aspect of it - a proud husband, father, a fruitful career, and an axe hand delivered by Schwarzenegger, his idol, that proves there is no firefighter stronger.

NOW THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:

SECTION 1. That Toledo Firefighter Marcus Waugh is recognized and congratulated for his extraordinary accomplishments, his personal character traits, and in presence, a role model for all who aspire to excel at every aspect of their lives, and for representing Toledo in a truly positive light with great honor and pride

SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
