SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:
The purpose of this ordinance is to provide funding in 2023 for the USA Women's Boxing Championships taking place July 23-29 at the Glass City Center in Toledo. Lucas County will also be providing $55,000 to support this event. Thread Marketing will be coordinating events around the competition that will engage kids from various boxing gyms in Toledo, connect them with the boxers, and provide mentoring and training opportunities during the week. This inaugural tournament and week of planned activities are expected to bring many regional visitors into the area, provide summer fun and excitement for our youth, and showcase our city to a nationwide audience.
Summary
NOW, THEREFORE, Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That the expenditure of $55,000 is authorized from the General Fund Account Code 1001-10202-1143001STDADM for payment of $30,000 to Thread Marketing and $25,000 to the Convention Visitors Bureau for activities to support the 2023 USA Women's Boxing Championships Tournament; waiving the competitive bidding requirements of TMC 187.
SECTION 2. That the Mayor is authorized to enter into agreements for the purposes authorized in Section 1, upon terms and conditions acceptable to the Director of Law and the Director of Marketing and Communications.
SECTION 3. That the Finance Director is authorized to draw warrants or warrants against the above Account Code in an amount not to exceed $55,000 in payment of the above-authorized obligations upon the proper voucher or vouchers.
