Recognizing Billie Johnson on her Retirement.
Summary
WHEREAS, Billie Johnson, President and CEO of the Area Office on Aging of Northwestern Ohio, is retiring after serving the senior citizens of Northwest Ohio with love, compassion, and dedication for more than four decades; and
WHEREAS, when Ms. Johnson took over at the Area Office on Aging, the staff was comprised of four members and now, through years of growth and guidance, Ms. Johnson cultivated the Area Office on Aging to an agency of more than 185 employees, 2,000 senior volunteers, and over 180 service providers; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Johnson is a leader in the field of aging, serving on multiple national and state boards and committees and presenting her knowledge and expertise across the country as well as in Nairobi, Kenya and Beijing, China; and
WHEREAS, under her direction the Area Office on Aging has come to be known as one of the premier agencies of its type throughout the United States and has received eleven national development and innovation awards; while also establishing the agency's Foundation Board and developing a forty-six-acre campus that provides a continuum of care for seniors through our region; and
WHEREAS, described by colleagues, friends and family members as: "the sequoia among sequoias", "an icon among icons", "the epitome of diplomacy", and "a source of strength". We recognize that her "commitment to seniors is boundless;" NOW THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That Council recognizes the lifelong commitment of Ms. Billie Johnson to Northwest Ohio, especially our seniors throughout her compassionate, strong and honest leadership with the Area Office on Aging and wish her a long, healthy and happy retirement.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
