Designating Main Street as “Yehia ‘John’ Shousher Way”.

 

Summary

WHEREAS, Yehia “John” Shousher was considered by many in the Toledo area as a builder of bridges across faiths and cultures; and

 

WHEREAS, Yehia “John” Shousher was not born as a Toledoan but became one through his service to the community in his almost seventy years of living, working, serving, helping and building the community; and

 

WHEREAS, Yehia “John” Shousher’s impact and legacy was felt in many places across the community, including the Government Center where he was recognized for leadership with a plaque on the Lucas County Wall of Friends, the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo which he helped establish in 1954 and helped to secure its current site in 1983, and on Main Street in East Toledo where he was a longtime board member of River East Development; and

 

WHEREAS, it is now befitting to further commemorate and honor the accomplishments of Yehia “John” Shousher with an honorary street designation of Main Street as “Yehia ‘John’ Shousher Way”; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:

 

SECTION 1.  That the life and legacy of Yehia “John” Shousher be commemorated with an honorary street designation of Main Street as “John Shousher Way”.

 

                     SECTION 2.  That this resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
