SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:
This ordinance authorizes the Mayor to accept, deposit, and expend funds related to Ohio TechCred and training for the IT department. Ohio TechCred grant awards up to $30,000 per grant application period, subject to the rules and guidelines set forth by Ohio TechCred. Additionally, this ordinance authorizes the Mayor to enter into an agreement with United Training for the facilitation of training programs.

In late 2022, the City of Toledo applied for the Ohio TechCred grant program. Approval was received on January 5, 2023. Application periods open several times throughout the year at the discretion of Ohio TechCred. IT will continue to apply during each application period.

Furthermore, an RFP was issued seeking a training partner to assist in navigating the grant program, offering online and in-person classes, being a certified training partner with Microsoft and others, and offering training classes at established costs. Based on these requirements and the responses to the RFP, United Training was chosen as the preferred partner.

Passage of this ordinance is required to enable the City of Toledo to accept Ohio TechCred grants and to proceed with employee training through United Training.
