Recognizing PS 419 Mentors.

 

Summary

WHEREAS, Public Safety 419 or PS419, established in 2021 guided by the leadership of then-Councilwoman Cecelia Adams, as an innovative career technology course hosted by Toledo Public Schools, in collaboration with Owens Community College and the City of Toledo’s Fire and Rescue Department and Police Department continues today; and

 

WHEREAS, the mission of PS 419 is to prepare local students for a career in public safety by offering courses in Emergency Medical Training, Criminal Justice Firefighting and Law Enforcement; and

 

WHEREAS, this home-grown program helps address the City of Toledo’s recruitment challenges in public safety by preparing a diverse, educated, and community-minded candidates and citizens; and 

 

WHEREAS, the inaugural year of the program showed many successes for PS419 including approximately forty students enrolled with seniors testing and qualifying for the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department; and

 

WHEREAS, members of both the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department and Toledo Police Department volunteer their personal time mentoring students and make personal connection between public safety and students; and

 

WHEREAS, a special thank you to the mentors of the Toledo Police Department: David Wieczorek, Michael Kurjan, Ponsvan Spetz, Joseph Heffernan, James Macklin, Mohamad-Aly Nasser, Daniel Radwanski, Brandon Burton, Stephen Bates, Melissa Stephens, Greg Long, Dana Slay, Carlyle Gafeney, Jared Muelbauer and Toledo Fire and Rescue Department: Allison Armstrong, Evan Back, Don Berry, Sharyl Close, Aaron Hague, Gwen Haynes-Burel, Kim Hood, Marlene Metti, Gina Shubeta, Jon-Paul Pasker, Amanda Davis, Daniel Brown Martinez, Jill Hoffman, Scott Martin, Sarah Rowe, Adam Thal; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:

 

SECTION 1.  That Toledo City Council recognizes the contribution that the mentors of PS419 have made to the education and recruitment efforts for Public Service in the City of Toledo.

 

                     SECTION 2.  That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
