Recognizing the 20th Anniversary of Toledo/Lucas County CareNet and the essential services they bring to those most vulnerable in our community.
Summary
WHEREAS, after months of collaboration and planning, Toledo/Lucas County CareNet became incorporated on December 16, 2002, and the charity care network enrolled its first client exactly a month later, bringing the brainchild of the late Toledo Mayor Jack Ford to life; and
WHEREAS, since then, more than 28,800 unduplicated Lucas County residents without health coverage have been enrolled in CareNet charity care network and connected to a medical home; and
WHEREAS, CareNet partners with more than 200 volunteer specialty care physicians to provide members with services for free or at a reduced cost, and the charity care network also includes 8 hospital and 15 clinics; and
WHEREAS, after advocating for Medicaid expansion at the state level, CareNet added services to help people enroll in and use their coverage, as well as get connected to needed medical and social services; and
WHEREAS, approximately 1,200 residents have received free care coordination services by working one-on-one with a community health worker (CHW) and thousands of northwest Ohioans have received free assistance enrolling in coverage through the federal Health Insurance Marketplace and Medicaid; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That Toledo/Lucas County CareNet is recognized for the 20 years of essential services they have brought to those most vulnerable in our community.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
