SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:
David (Dave) Beckwith dedicated his life toward the betterment of the City of Toledo as a courageous and confident community leader and organizer.
Naming the Marengo Street bridge in honor of Dave Beckwith is a fitting tribute to his dedication, hard work and remarkable spirit.
This Council, by motion, desires to officially name the bridge known as the Marengo Street Bridge to the Dave Beckwith Memorial Bridge.
Summary
NOW, THEREFORE, Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That the Council of the City of Toledo hereby recognizes that naming the bridge known as The Marengo Street Bridge in honor of Dave Beckwith; acknowledges his tireless dedication and contributions during his life toward the betterment of the City of Toledo.
SECTION 2. That the name of the bridge known as the Marengo Street Bridge be officially changed to the “Dave Beckwith Memorial Bridge.”
SECTION 3. That this Ordinance hereby is declared to be an emergency measure and shall be in force and effect from and after its passage. The reason for the emergency lies in the fact that same is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, safety, and property and for the further reason that it is desirable to approximate this name change at the earliest possible time.
Vote on emergency clause: yeas 11, nays 0.
Adopted: January 10, 2023 as an emergency measure: yeas 11, nays 0.
