Title
Supporting the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library Operating Levy, Issue 11; and declaring an emergency.
Summary
WHEREAS, the Toledo-Lucas Public County Library's 2022 Operating Levy, Issue 11, is being supported by Members of the Toledo City Council; and
WHEREAS, since opening in 1918, the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library is an institution with a nearly 185-year tradition of aiding the educational growth and economic development of Northwest Ohio; and
WHEREAS, the success of Issue 11 for the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library would help increase the purchasing of books, media, technology updates, and many other essentials needed to maintain everyday services to approximately 3 million visitors per year; and
WHEREAS, drastically rising costs make passage of this levy essential, accounting for 55 percent of the total operational budget; over half of everything library users see, use or participate in at the library is made possible only by Lucas County voters; and
WHEREAS, on November 8, 2022, Toledo and Lucas County voters will be asked to approve Issue 11 to maintain the high quality of library services for the citizens of Toledo and Northwest Ohio; and
WHEREAS, the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library is a public institution, widely-used vital hub and essential community resource; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That Toledo City Council supports the 2022 Operating Levy, Issue 11, for the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution is declared to be an emergency measure necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, safety and property of the City, and for the further reason that this Resolution is required to be immediately effective in order to permit the timely expression of support for Issue 11 on the November ballot; wherefore, this Resolution shall be in full...
