Title

Expressing Toledo City Council support for Metroparks 10-year 0.9-mill renewal levy, Issue 7, on the November 8 ballot; and declaring an emergency.

 

Summary

WHEREAS, Metroparks will have a 10-year renewal issue on the November 8 ballot; and

 

WHEREAS, Issue 7 is not a new tax and there will be no increase in cost to the taxpayer; and

 

WHEREAS, the cost to an owner of a $100,000 home will be $2.08 a month; and

 

WHEREAS, Metroparks has a history of leveraging public funds to acquire grant funds to help stretch their dollars further.  Every dollar Metroparks has invested in Toledo has had a significant return on investment, bringing jobs and economic growth; and

 

WHEREAS, the passage of this levy will generate over six million dollars annually to continue to maintain and improve every park and every community within the Metroparks system; and

 

WHEREAS, Metroparks fulfilled its promise to have a Metropark within five miles of every Lucas County resident with the dedication of the Manhattan Marsh Metropark in 2020; and

 

WHEREAS, the Glass City Metropark and the pedestrian bridge connecting it to International Park is a $200 million investment over several years in the downtown area to include the Glass City Riverwalk, International Park, physical and ecological improvements to the Maumee River shoreline, the MLK, Jr. Bridge, the Vistula neighborhood, Craig Memorial Bridge, and the East Toledo neighborhood near Waite High School; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:

 

SECTION 1. That Toledo City Council expresses its support for Metroparks 10-year renewal issue on the November 8 ballot, Issue 7.

 

SECTION 2.  That this Resolution is declared to be an emergency measure necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, safety and property of the City, and for the further reason that this Resolution is required to be immediately effective in order to permit the timely expression of support for Issue 7 on the November ballot; wherefore, this Resolution shall be in full force and effect immediately upon its adoption or at the earliest time allowed by law.
