Recognizing Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority (TARTA) on 50 years of service.
Summary
WHEREAS, the Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority (TARTA) provides a vital link in the Toledo metro area to jobs, education, health care and other destinations; it enables everyone in our community to have access to transportation regardless of their age, race, physical ability or economic background; and
WHEREAS, in 1971, a regional transit authority was formed to take over the Community Traction Company; voters' approval of a property tax increase referendum to fund the system was passed and the new agency, the Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority (TARTA) assumed operations on June 1, 1971; and
WHEREAS, TARTA serves seven communities in Northwest Ohio: Maumee, Ottawa Hills, Rossford, Sylvania, Sylvania Township, Toledo, and Waterville; and
WHEREAS, TARTA continues to explore and introduce new initiatives and service options that will enhance convenience and customer experience while moving Toledo into the future of public transit; and
WHEREAS, TARTA provides services such as: TARPS, for riders with disabilities; Call-A-Ride, for convenience, Park-N-Ride, with benefits to avoid traffic, have difficulty parking, and have the benefit of relaxing until your destination; Service To Schools and Universities, students in Toledo and surrounding areas utilize services to travel to and from school; and
WHEREAS, TARTA offers free rides to the voting polls and through the COVID pandemic, offered free rides from March 2020, through December 31, 2021; also, in partnership with Toledo-Lucas County Health Department and the VProject; NOW, THEREFORE,
