Title
Recognizing Robert “Bobby” Shiels and his award winning 27-year career.
Summary
WHEREAS, Robert “Bobby” Shiels has been with WTOL 11 for twenty-seven years and is leaving to “give someone else a chance,” a saying he heard many times from his Busia; and
WHEREAS, Robert came to Toledo in August of 1994 to fill the spot vacated by retiring Chief Meteorologist Charlie Umpenhour; it was not his first time on a weather forecast in Toledo as he had filled in 1992; and
WHEREAS, Robert’s hometown of Detroit, Michigan was a perfect location for him to have fond memories of the Glass City as his family visited the Toledo waterfront when he was a child; and
WHEREAS, one of Mr. Shiels’ most memorable nights was on June 5, 2010, when he was on air for six hours after giving two days of advanced warning about what became an EF4 tornado with winds upwards of 175 mph; in the aftermath of the storm Mr. Shiels helped the Millbury community with the clean-up; and
WHEREAS, Robert says that he is not retiring, but he is looking forward to a real estate career where he can drive home from work before midnight and spend more time with his family; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That we recognize the noteworthy career of Robert “Bobby” Shiels and wish him well in his new career path.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
