Title
Authorizing the expenditure of $70,110 from the Street Construction Maintenance and Repair Fund for the Martin Luther King Jr. Bridge Electrical Repairs; authorizing the Mayor to waive formal bidding requirements of TMC Chapter 187 and award a contract to TAS, Inc. for said repairs; making certain findings with respect thereto; and declaring an emergency.

Body
SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:
The Martin Luther King Jr. Bridge underwent its last major rehabilitation project from 2002 through 2008 for a total cost close to $75M. To replace this bridge in its entirety today would cost more than $200M. This bridge is a Scherzer rolling lift movable bridge and requires annual maintenance and repair. Annual maintenance costs should be expected to run in the $100,000 to $300,000 per year range. This is based on data from Chicago, which maintains over a dozen of this type of bridge. Specific electrical repairs needed include the replacement of conduit and wiring in the pit area on both sides of the lift span. This Ordinance authorizes awarding the electrical work directly to TAS, Inc. because of their unique expertise and experience in performing emergency electrical work on this bridge over the last several years.
