Title

Recognizing the valor and ultimate sacrifice of Toledo Police Officer Brandon Stalker; confirming the City’s commitment to Kennah Miller and Grayson Stalker, children of Officer Stalker; and declaring an emergency.

Body

SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:

On January 18, 2021, Toledo Police Officer Brandon Stalker was fatally wounded in the line of duty.  Officer Stalker is survived by his fiancé, Ashley Ohmer, and his two young children.  In recognition of his bravery and ultimate sacrifice, the City of Toledo wishes to collectively acknowledge its debt and affirm its commitment to the health and well-being of Officer Stalker’s children.

To that end, the City of Toledo wishes to ensure that full health insurance benefits continue to be paid, uninterrupted, on behalf of Officer Stalker’s children until such time as other medical benefits to which Officer Stalker’s children are entitled become available, or until the children reach adulthood.

Summary

NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:

SECTION 1.  That the Council of the City of Toledo recognizes the valor and ultimate sacrifice of Police Officer Brandon Stalker and wishes to show support for Officer Stalker’s family.

SECTION 2.  That the Council of the City of Toledo affirms and commits to the promise by the Mayor of the City of Toledo that medical benefits shall continue uninterrupted for Officer Stalker’s two children, subject to the rules and procedures of the City’s health plan, until such time as other healthcare benefits become available to all or each of them, or until Officer Stalker’s youngest child, Grayson Stalker, reaches the age of 18, whichever occurs first.

SECTION 3.  That the Clerk of Council hereby is authorized and directed to forward an official copy of this resolution to Kennah Miller and Grayson Stalker.

SECTION 4.  That this resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency and shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption.  The reason for the emergency lies in the fact that this is a matter that should be considered immediately so that the commitments of the City of Toledo can be memorialized with no further delay.
