Recognizing DeAndre Ware for his life saving actions in Las Vegas.
Summary
WHEREAS, DeAndre Ware a Toledo Firefighter and EMT who also is a Professional Boxer was in Las Vegas on Friday, September 4, 2020 for his professional fight the following night, when a commotion happened during his weigh in; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Ware jumped into action when he realized that someone’s life was at risk, and he performed CPR on Mr. Pete Susens, who was in the midst of a cardiac arrest; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Ware and a doctor from the Nevada State Athletic Commission performed life saving measures on Mr. Susens while they were waiting for other help to arrive; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Ware dedicates his life to helping people outside the boxing ring as a Private in the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department and he has now brought those skills to his boxing career by saving a life during his boxing match weigh-in; and
WHEREAS, Mr. DeAndre Ware showed the world the courage and commitment that Toledo Firefighters have for not only their community but for people as a whole; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That Toledo City Council congratulates and thanks Mr. DeAndre Ware for his quick thinking, his medical expertise, and his commitment to service that was shown when he saved the life of Mr. Pete Susens
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
