Recognizing September 22, 2020 as National Voter Registration Day.
Summary
WHEREAS, the Fourth Tuesday of September has been recognized as National Voter Registration Day since its inception in 2012; and
WHEREAS, since the inception of National Voter Registration Day in 2012 over 3 million people in the United States have registered to vote; and
WHEREAS, National Voter Registration Day is a nonpartisan civic holiday celebrating democracy and the holiday has been endorsed by the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS), the National Association of State Election Directors (NASED), the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC), and the National Association of Election Officials (The Election Center); and
WHEREAS, National Voter Registration Day is a day of civic unity and it is an opportunity to set aside differences, enjoy the rights and opportunities we all share as Americans, and celebrate our democracy; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That Toledo City Council recognizes National Voter Registration Day and encourages residents of Toledo and Lucas County to make sure they are registered and that their vote is counted.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
