Body
SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:
The University of Cincinnati is pleased to announce that The Toledo Fire and Rescue Department has been awarded funding from the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). This funding will be used for the TFRD start-up costs to support the "Leave Behind" initiative.

EMS agencies frequently respond to 911 calls for opioid overdose or other conditions affecting people who suffer from opioid use disorder. In many cases these individuals are not transported to the hospital, but would still benefit from receiving Naloxone. TFRD will work with the HCS Ohio IC to operationalize, and implement procedures to "leave behind" Naloxone with at-risk individuals, particularly if they are not transported to an emergency department for further care.

In addition, the initiative will work on streamlining the required data collection for this project and linking this with other programs to assist with accurate and timely reporting of overdose information and Naloxone distribution.

The funds will be used to support such efforts of personnel identified as champions who will work on Leave It Behind program development and expanding program implementation including, but not limited to, training, data collection and management, reporting, and advertising. The funds may also be used for the potential, future, purchase of Naloxone or any other supplies that will directly be used to support the "Leave Behind" initiative.
