SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:
The Toledo Police Department has developed a successful School Resource Officer Program, which assigns an officer to Washington Local Senior and Junior High Schools. Washington Local Schools has agreed to provide an amount of $36,210.84 to continue funding the program for the 2020-2021 school years. That amount represents one-half the salary and benefits of the officer assigned to Washington Local Schools for the school year (nine months). Washington Local Schools has paid one-half of the salaries since the 1999-2000 school years.

Summary
NOW, THEREFORE, Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That the mayor is authorized to enter into an agreement with Washington Local Schools, under terms and conditions also deemed appropriate by the Director of Police Operations, and the Director of Law; and further authorizing the mayor to accept and deposit $36,210.84 into the General Fund, Account Code 1001-52000-3381002STDSTD, for continuing the School Resource Officer Program for the 2020-2021 school year.
SECTION 2. That this Ordinance is declared to be an emergency measure and shall be in force and effect from and after its passage. The reason for the emergency lies in the fact that it is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, safety, and property, and to receive the funds in a timely manner from Washington Local Schools and continue the program.
