Recognizing Deet’s BBQ and Grub-for-Scrubs.
Summary
WHEREAS, Deet’s BBQ is a local, family owned and operated home-style barbeque restaurant and mobile catering company; and
WHEREAS, Deet’s BBQ is partnering with local area hospitals and medical facilities to feed the healthcare workers on our front lines fighting this virus; and
WHEREAS, when the social distancing recommendations and state guidelines were put into place, the #grubsforscrubs initiative started when a scheduled catering order from Deet’s BBQ for the William Vaughan Co. in Maumee was donated rather than cancelled; and
WHEREAS, soon after the initial order was donated, a woman from the US Air Force also donated $500 to the cause; within 24 hours the initiative had raised more than $2,200 and is growing every hour; every dollar donated, provides meals to these workers; and
WHEREAS, donations not only help to feed healthcare workers, but also have allowed the Deet’s BBQ employees to continue working and have provided a “wheel of events” that benefit other people and businesses; and
WHEREAS, just under 6,000 meals have been served thus far including all staff and shifts at Mercy St. Charles, ProMedica Bay Park, ProMedica Flower Hospital, Regency Hospital, UTMC, St. Luke’s, several senior centers, urgent cares, dialysis clinics, eye doctors, Emergency Operations Center, Toledo Fire Department Shop, Toledo Police Department 4 times, Toledo Fire Department 6 times, Maumee Police 4 times, Oregon Police 2 times and Perrysburg Police 2 times; and
WHEREAS, Deet’s BBQ has won awards in 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014 NWO Rib Off “Peoples Choice Award” for Best Local Ribber; 2012 & 2014 Best of Toledo: Best BBQ; and 2013 Wings Over Wauseon, Best Wings People’s Choice and Judges Choice; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That Toledo City Council recognizes Deet’s BBQ for their part in the creation of #grubsforscrubs and their continued support to the community.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
