Supporting the University of Toledo Medical Center (UTMC).
Summary
WHEREAS, the University of Toledo Board of Trustees recently issued a “Request for Proposals” (RFP) for operational partnership or sale of the University of Toledo Medical Center (UTMC); and
WHEREAS, UTMC employs approximately 2,300 employees in Toledo. The loss of these jobs would further undermine the areas economic recovery once epidemic is over; and
WHEREAS, Toledo City Council is asking Governor DeWine to stay the RFP process for the duration of this epidemic. UTMC developed the only reliable test being used in NW Ohio which proved to be an invaluable resource during this crisis, working to keep NW Ohioans safe; and
WHEREAS, Toledo City Council is asking Governor DeWine to order the State to perform a forensic audit of UT financial decisions related to UTMC and UT Health Sciences Campus and UTMC’s current financial condition; and
WHEREAS, Toledo City Council urges the DeWine administration to work with UTMC to find additional State and federal funding to support UTMC and retain it as public asset; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That Toledo City Council urges Governor DeWine to stay the proposal for operational partnership or sale of the University of Toledo Medical Center (UTMC) and work with UT to strengthen this State medical center.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
