Title

Recognizing Dr. Celia Williamson; because of her research and service to the community, she has saved and changed countless lives of women, children, and youth in Toledo and across the U.S. for the better.

 

Summary

WHEREAS, Dr. Celia Williamson, Toledo native, went to Lagrange School and Woodward High School; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Williamson has been engaged in anti-human trafficking work for over 25 years and founded the first anti-trafficking program in Ohio; directly working with victims in Toledo for several years; and

 

WHEREAS, in 2009, she founded the Lucas County Human Trafficking Coalition that works with politicians to pass state and federal laws, educate the community, and bring criminal justice, social service, and health care agencies together to respond to victims of human trafficking; and

 

WHEREAS, she has completed numerous federally funded studies, written several articles and reports, edited two books on sex trafficking around the world, and completed her memoir as an anti-trafficking advocate; and

 

WHEREAS, additional accomplishments include: founding the annual International Human Trafficking and Social Justice Conference; founding the Lucas County Human Trafficking Coalition; Chairing the Research & Analysis Subcommittee for the Ohio Attorney General's Human Trafficking Commission; and serving as President of the Global Association of Human Trafficking Scholars; and

 

WHEREAS, in 2015, she became the Director of the Human Trafficking and Social Justice Institute at the University of Toledo to further the mission of combating human trafficking through research, education, and engagement. Because she was blessed with two parents and a stable home, she focuses on changing the lives of the most vulnerable, poor, and oppressed in society; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:

 

SECTION 1. That we recognize Dr. Celia Williamson. Because of her research and service to the community, she has saved and changed countless lives of women, children, and youth in Toledo and across the world for the better.

 

                     SECTION 2.  That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
