Honoring District Three Councilman Peter Ujvagi.
Summary
WHEREAS, Peter Sandor Ujvagi has lived his life in service to the public focusing on the issues of immigrants' rights, community organizing, neighborhood, and economic development; and
WHEREAS, Peter was born in Budapest, Hungary, and immigrated to the United States in 1957, with his parents and siblings; he has said he still gets chills thinking about their hike to freedom through the snow; and
WHEREAS, Peter graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School and attended the University of Toledo; and
WHEREAS, Peter has worn many hats throughout his career as: assistant field director and field director for the National Center for Urban Affairs; chair of the education committee for the National Campaign for Human Development; chair for the Committee on Governance; head of the Lucas County Democratic Party from 1989 to 1993; the Ohio House of Representatives from 2003-2010; and Lucas County Administrator from 2010 to 2016; and
WHEREAS, Peter dedicated his time to Toledo City Council from 1981-1983; 1986 - 1989; 1994-2002; and 2016 through today; he has made a lasting impression on so many people throughout his time serving the people of Toledo and Northwest Ohio; and
WHEREAS, now Peter will have more time to spend with his loving wife and family, volunteering at the Hungarian Club, and focus on other exciting projects that fills his days; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That we honor Councilman Peter Sandor Ujvagi and wish him well as he moves on to the next exciting chapter of his life.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
