Recognizing October as Down Syndrome Awareness Month.
Summary
WHEREAS, October is observed as National Down Syndrome Awareness Month; and
WHEREAS, the mission of the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Toledo’s is to promote awareness of individuals living with Down syndrome in our communities; encourage self-advocacy and self-determination; provide family support and educational resources for members with Down syndrome, their parents, and their loved ones; support inclusion as deemed appropriate on an individual basis; and
WHEREAS, the vision of DSAGT is to increase the public’s understanding of Down syndrome by educating the public, professionals, and the local community regarding the abilities of people with Down syndrome… not their disability; and
WHEREAS, DSAGT provides multiple programs for individuals and families including expectant parent support, new parent support, teen programs, family events, a lending library, scholarship opportunities, and adult education scholarship opportunities; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That we recognize and continue the mission of support that Down Syndrome Awareness Month and Down Syndrome Association of Greater Toledo provide to multiple individuals and families.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
