Recognizing the 100th Anniversary of Laborers Local 500.

Summary
WHEREAS, to address the demand of the time to employ skilled workers to build roads, bridges and infrastructure, the International Hod Carriers' and Building Laborers' Union (now referred to as LIUNA) was established locally on October 20, 1919 as "Laborers' Local 500" to serve Toledo and Northwest Ohio; and

WHEREAS, since its founding, LIUNA (Laborers' International Union of North America) Local 500 has remained focused in its mission to create and retain jobs, provide training to produce an efficient and productive workforce, and actively engage in political and community affairs that directly affect its membership and the communities in which they live and service; and

WHEREAS, over the last one hundred years Laborers Local 500 has remained a major contributor to the landscape of Toledo and Northwestern Ohio having helped to build local landmarks that include the University Stadium at the University of Toledo, the Toledo Main Library, the Toledo Municipal Airport, the Owens Corning World Headquarters, Promenade Park, The Veterans Glass City Skyway Bridge, the Fifth/Third Field Baseball Stadium and so much more; NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:

SECTION 1. That Laborers Local 500 is hereby honored for being the most progressive, diverse and fastest growing union of construction workers in America, commended for their commitment to the well-being of our community, and recognized on this milestone occasion in celebration of their 100th Year Anniversary.

SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
