Title

Authorizing the Mayor to accept a FAFSA Initiative Grant in the amount of $30,000 for the purpose of dispersing the funds to Toledo Public Schools (TPS) for their FAFSA Program; and declaring an emergency.

SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:

This ordinance authorizes the acceptance of the FAFSA Initiative Grant. The $30,000 grant will be used to fund the TPS FAFSA Program that will increase the TPS FAFSA completion rate to 68% for the Class of Spring 2021, and 75% for the Class of Spring 2024. The action plan is to increase FAFSA awareness with family and students, increase and maximize the FAFSA forms completed and data collection and reporting.

Summary

NOW, THEREFORE, Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Toledo:

 

                     SECTION 1.                     That the Mayor is authorized to accept and deposit the FAFSA Initiative Grant in the amount of $30,000 into the General Fund account code 1001-10200-1181001STDSTD for the purpose of dispersing the funds to TPS for the FAFSA program.

                                          

             SECTION 2. That the appropriation of $30,000 is authorized from the General Fund to Account Code 1001-10200-1181001STDSTD and the expenditure of same is authorized to disperse the FAFSA Initiative grant to TPS.

 

SECTION 3. That the Director of Finance is authorized to draw his warrant or warrants against the above referenced Account Code in an amount not to exceed $30,000 in payment of the obligations authorized above upon presentation of the proper voucher or vouchers.

 

SECTION 4. That this Ordinance is declared to be an emergency measure and shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.  The reason for the emergency lies in the fact that this ordinance is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, safety and property, and for the further reason that this ordinance must be immediately effective in order to timely begin the TPS FAFSA Program.
