Recognizing and congratulating Brigette Burnett on her 2019 Emmy Award and her work as a reporter, anchor, producer, videographer, editor and journalist.
Summary
WHEREAS, Ms. Brigette Burnett is recognized as a reporter, anchor, producer, videographer, editor and journalist who has provided Toledo residents with exceptional news coverage, and has received a 2019 NATAS Lower Great Lakes Chapter Emmy in the category of Single Story Human Interest for her piece entitled "Dancing with the Heart" for the Buckeye Community Arts Network program, Daily Downtown; and
WHEREAS, she graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcasting and Journalism in 2010 and started her career doing internships at places such as The Publicity Works, NBC Universal, and WXYZ News Room; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Burnett started working at News Channel 7 at Gray Television, and then proceeded to be a WAND Anchor, Reporter and Producer for Block Communications Inc.; and
WHEREAS, she returned to Gray Television in 2015 to be a 13abc News Reporter and fill in anchor until 2017 and now works for Buckeye Broadband as a Host and Producer of The Daily Downtown; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Burnett is a compelling journalist that will surely spark emotions within viewers, and whose 13abc investigative pieces prompted the Toledo Police Department to rescind charges on a man who was wrongly imprisoned; and
WHEREAS, she is nominated for Toledo's 20 under 40 award and is also a recipient of the Ohio Associated Press Media Editors award for continued coverage and has volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and now currently sits on the board of Standing Courage, Inc.;
NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That Ms. Brigette Burnett is recognized and congratulated on her 2019 Emmy award and her work as a reporter, anchor, producer, videographer, editor and journalist.
