Recognizing Dick Berry as a reporter and journalist who has dedicated his life's work to WTOL News for 40 years and has provided Toledo residents with exceptional news coverage.

 

Summary

WHEREAS, Dick Berry is recognized as a reporter and journalist who has dedicated his life's work to WTOL News for 40 years, and has provided Toledo residents with exceptional news coverage; and

WHEREAS, he graduated from Swanton High School and then went on to further his educational studies at Bowling Green State University with a major in Journalism and a minor in Political Science; and

WHEREAS, he started his career working as a  film runner for the Associated Press at the 1976 Democratic National  Convention in New York City and worked alongside Dan Rather, Sam Donaldson, Tom Brokaw, and Mike Wallace; Mr. Berry then went on to work as a radio reporter for WCWA-AM/WIOT-FM; and

WHEREAS, in 1979 Mr. Berry started working at WTOL where his most memorable segment was “Day Trippin” where he presented viewers with exciting vacation opportunities throughout the Midwest; and

WHEREAS, another notable accomplishment of Dick Berry’s career happened when he was awarded an Emmy for his coverage of a space shuttle mission which featured an all Ohio crew; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Berry says “who says there is nothing to do in Toledo” and can be found out and about enjoying events such as Mud Hens games, the Art Tatum Jazz Festival, and LPGA Classic; NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:

SECTION 1.  That we congratulate Mr. Dick Berry on his 40-year career and we look forward to seeing his continued work and eventual retirement.

SECTION 2.                      That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
