Summary
WHEREAS, the Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center UAW employees went on strike on Monday afternoon, May 6; and
WHEREAS, the ongoing strike affects 1,900 nurses, lab technicians and hospital support staffers; and
WHEREAS, the two outstanding issues are out of pocket health care costs by the members and on-call hours; and
WHEREAS, the ongoing strike at Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center is negatively impacting all of Toledo; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That Toledo City Council urges a return to the bargaining table and settlement by both sides in the Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center - United Auto Workers ongoing strike.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution is declared to be an emergency measure necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, safety and property of the City, and for the further reason that this Resolution is required to be immediately effective in order to urge a return to the bargaining table and settlement by both sides of the ongoing strike at Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center; wherefore, this Resolution shall be in full force and effect immediately after its adoption or at the earliest time allowed by law.
