SUMMARY & BACKGROUND
The purpose of the grant is to assist communities in addressing the challenges of obesity, rising incidence of chronic disease and the aging workforce. This program will assist the City of Toledo with the creation and implementation of a workplace wellness program. The goal is to limit and control the escalating cost of workers’ compensation claims and to develop health promotion programs for employees, which will also reduce healthcare costs for employers and improve the health and well-being of our workforce.
The grant will allow the city to use the funds for wellness initiatives such as health risk appraisals, biometric screenings, walking programs, educational materials and disease prevention.
Summary
NOW, THEREFORE, Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That the Mayor is authorized to accept and deposit a grant from the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation in the amount of $5,000 into the Operation Grants Fund Account Code 2016-17100-1G30000STDSTD.
SECTION 2. That the sum of $5,000.00 is authorized to be appropriated from the unappropriated grant proceeds of the Operation Grants Fund to Account Code 2016-17100-1G30000STDSTD; and the expenditure of same is authorized for use wellness initiatives.
SECTION 3. That the Director of Finance is authorized to draw his warrant or warrants against the above Account Code in an amount not to exceed $5,000 upon presentation of the proper documentation for the purpose stated above.
SECTION 4. That this Ordinance is declared to be an emergency measure and shall be in force and effect from and after its passage. The reason for the emergency lies in the fact that it is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, safety and to immediately implement wellness initiatives.
