Recognizing November 24, 2018 as Small Business Saturday.
Summary
WHEREAS, we join the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce in celebrating our local small businesses and the contributions they make to our community; and
WHEREAS, in our region there are more than 44,700 businesses with fewer than 100 employees according to most recent data from the U.S. Census Bureau; and
WHEREAS, these small businesses comprise 92% of all firms in the region; and
WHEREAS, nationally there are 30.2 million small businesses which employ 47.5 percent of America's private workforce according to the U.S. Small Business Administration; and
WHEREAS, small businesses often offer many unique products and services, as well as local crafts and specialties; and
WHEREAS, small businesses contribute to our communities by providing goods, creating jobs, and supporting the overall health of our economy; and
WHEREAS, businesses, public entities and other organizations across the nation have established the Saturday after Thanksgiving as "Small Business Saturday"; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That Toledo City Council recognizes November 24, 2018 as Small Business Saturday, and urges the residents of our community, and communities across the region and nation, to support small businesses on Small Businesses Saturday and throughout the year.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after the earliest date allowed by law.
