Commemorating the 25th Anniversary of Toledo Sister Cities International.
Summary
WHEREAS, Toledo Sister Cities International was founded by Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur as a coordinating body for developing sister city relationships and pursuing a mission dedicated to promoting peace, one individual, one community at a time; and
WHEREAS, Toledo Sister Cities International has been supported by and in the early days funded by the Toledo Lucas County Port Authority, Toledo Edison, Toledo Area Private Industry Council, Lucas County, and the City of Toledo; and
WHEREAS, in the 25 years of Toledo Sister Cities International many visitors including government officials, business professionals, leaders in education, cultural groups, youth, and sister city counterparts have made important economic impacts; and
WHEREAS, an International Youth Academy has been offered to students from our sister cities every summer since 1997 that provide cultural, educational, and language immersion along with local experiences that highlight the Toledo - Northwest Ohio area; and
WHEREAS, Toledo Sister Cities International represents relationships with Toledo, Spain - 1931, Qinhuangdao, China - 1985, Szeged, Hungary - 1990, Poznan, Poland - 1991, Beqaa Valley, Lebanon -1998, Toyohashi, Japan - 2000, Delmenhorst, Germany - 2002, Coimbatore, India - 2010, Hyderabad, Pakistan - 2011, Corban, Germany - a friendship city in 2017, and Nanchang, China - 2018; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That we congratulate Toledo Sister Cities International on their 25th Anniversary and wish them continued success in developing relationships worldwide.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
