Recognizing Chief Luis Santiago on the Occasion of his Retirement.

 

Summary

WHEREAS, Luis Santiago joined the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department in 1984 at the age of twenty-one and over his more than three decades long career has remained an exemplary public servant excelling to the rank of Chief in 2011; and

 

WHEREAS, having given the majority of his adult life to supporting the operations of the Fire and Rescue Department, Mr. Santiago was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 1988, Captain in 1993, Battalion Chief in 2000 and Assistant Chief in 2007; and

 

WHEREAS, Chief Santiago has solidified a place in Toledo’s history as our first Hispanic Fire and Rescue Operations Chief and he has proven to be a valuable leader, a strategic incident response commander and a competent, professional administrator whereby under his leadership as Chief more service calls were incurred within a single calendar year than ever before, arson-related arrests increased substantially due to the department’s Fire Investigations Unit, and the department remains one of the few Nationally Accredited Departments in the United States receiving the prestigious ISO rating of “1” in 2017; and

 

WHEREAS, Chief Santiago has been acknowledged locally and nationally for his accomplishments whereby he holds various certificates from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s National Incident Management System as well as The United States Coast Guard, and he is affiliated with the Lucas County Fire Chiefs Association, the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the Toledo Fire Museum Board, the Toledo Zoo and he is a founding member of the Toledo Fire & Rescue Foundation (an organization committed to the needs of the men and women of the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department), among several other state and community affiliations; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:

 

SECTION 1. That Luis Santiago is hereby honored for his years of dedicated public service, recognized for his substantial contributions to the Fire and Rescue Department and wished the best in all future endeavors on this occasion in acknowledgment of his retirement.

 

SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
