SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:
Metroparks Toledo is advancing the next phase of the Glass City Riverwalk by transforming Maritime Plaza, located beneath the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Bridge, into a signature public gathering space along Toledo's riverfront. As part of this effort, Metroparks Toledo, in partnership with the City and The Arts Commission of Greater Toledo, is working on the installation of an artistic lighting display that will illuminate the underside of the bridge structure and create a unique visual experience for residents and visitors.

The proposed installation will enhance public safety through improved lighting, activate an underutilized public space, strengthen connections between downtown and the Vistula neighborhood, and create a distinctive landmark that celebrates Toledo's ongoing investment in its waterfront. The project is intended to complement recent public and private investments along the riverfront and further establish the area as a regional destination for recreation, tourism, and community events.

The City and Metroparks Toledo are parties to a Development Agreement for the Glass City Riverwalk Project. In order to facilitate the installation and clarify the parties' respective responsibilities, an amendment to the existing Development Agreement is necessary.
