Urging TARTA to continue to diligently look for ways to reinstate Sunday and holiday transportation services to those who rely solely on TARTA for transportation services.
Summary
WHEREAS, TARTA’s recent announcement of reduction of service hours will have significant impact on those individuals in TARTA’s service area who rely solely on TARTA services to maintain employment; and
WHEREAS, TARTA’s reduction in service hours greatly impacts low-income and disabled community members who often have no other transportation options; and
WHEREAS, reductions in weekend and holiday services particularly harm minority individuals. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, service sector jobs are more likely to be filled by minorities. These service sector jobs frequently require irregular work hours including weekends and holidays; and
WHEREAS, TARTA must find a way to reinstate the much needed Sunday and holiday service to those who have no other options and have come to rely on the service; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That the City of Toledo asks TARTA to continue to diligently look for ways to reinstate Sunday and holiday transportation services to those who rely solely on TARTA for transportation services.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after the earliest date allowed by law.
