Recognizing Kristin Cousino for retiring and 35 years of dedication, and hard work with the City of Toledo.

Summary

WHEREAS, KRISTIN COUSINO started working for the City of Toledo in 1990 at the age of 20 as a college intern at the Division of Environmental Services, then headquartered at 26 Main, International Park and 35 years later, at age 55, is retiring from the City of Toledo, having served four Divisions; and

WHEREAS, as a young intern, Kristin was the "Cough Cop" for the Division of Environmental Services in charge of the enforcement of the City of Toledo's 1987 Clean Indoor Air Law, a no-smoking ordinance that predated the State of Ohio's current smoking ban; and

WHEREAS, in 1993 Kristin became the first female engineer employed by the Division of Water Reclamation and served as both a project manager and maintenance administrator; in 2008 Kristin became the first female engineer to be employed at the Division of Water Treatment, and was instrumental in the completion of the carbon dioxide feed system, potassium permanganate feed system, brand new chemistry lab capable of detecting algae blooms, and initiated the 20 Year plan which provided redundancy to the clean water process; in 2011 Kristin was the first female engineer promoted to Senior Structural Engineer at the Division of Streets Bridges and Harbor, in charge of the maintenance and safety of more than 300 bridges within the City of Toledo; and

WHEREAS, other notable accomplishments include; lead the yearly Point Place Dike inspection with the ACOE; served as Treasurer of Toledo Pride under Mayor Finkbeiner; secured and maintained dozens of federal grants for bridge replacement and rehabilitation projects; served as Project Manager for the design and construction of Fire Station 6 under Mayor Bell; lead the Division of Streets, Bridges & Harbor through the winter of 2014, which was given "worst winter" award by The Weathe...
