SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:
The Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (MONSE) applied for and received a grant from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) to bolster violence prevention and response efforts at schools within Toledo's neighborhoods and networks disproportionately impacted by gun violence. These efforts will initially focus on Waite, Scott, and Woodward high schools and their feeder schools. The three-year grant will fund one full time project coordinator, expand Save Our Community's case management services with two additional staff; provide sub-awards to Good Grief of Northwest Ohio and Sisters 4 Unity to bolster healing and grief support groups for youth and families impacted by gun violence; train more than 50 school personnel in Youth Mental Health First Aid; and establish a working group centered on youth and families directly impacted by gun violence.
