SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine recently announced that thousands of first responders across Ohio will receive incentives from the State in recognition of their dedication to public safety and their ongoing commitment to public service.
Accordingly, the Ohio Emergency Management Agency awarded the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department an ARPA First Responder Retention Grant totaling $2,208,000 to address first responder burnout caused by understaffing and occupational stressors and to facilitate member retention by providing resources that promote personal well-being.
Subsequently, with Council's approval, these funds will be distributed to 552 eligible members according to grant guidance to promote first responder retention and well-being.
Summary
NOW, THEREFORE, Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That the Mayor is authorized to accept and deposit a grant from the Ohio Emergency Management Agency into the Operation Grants Fund Code 2016-53000-3G03002STDSTD, in an amount not to exceed $2,208,000 to facilitate Fire and Rescue First Responder retention.
SECTION 2. That the appropriation of $2,208,000 is authorized from the unappropriated grant proceeds of the Operation Grants Fund to Account Code 2016-53000-3G03002STDSTD, and the expenditure of same is authorized to support Fire and Rescue First Responder retention.
