Supporting Toledo Sister Cities International in their efforts to accept donations of disposable gowns and medical facemasks for Qinhuangdao and Nanchong, China as they battle the coronavirus.
Summary
WHEREAS, the flu-like coronavirus has killed over 900 people in China with another 40,000 cases reported; and
WHEREAS, the fast-moving coronavirus and has spread to more than two dozen other countries with another 150 cases reported; and
WHEREAS, in 1985 Toledo designated its second international sister city, Qinhuangdao, China. In 2017 Nanchong, China became Toledo's second Chinese sister city; and
WHEREAS, Qinhuangdao is a dynamic and charming port city on the coast of China, about a two-hour train ride east of Beijing, is a popular vacation destination and is also known as the Glass City of China. Nanchong is located in Sichuan Province. It is the third most populous city in West China, after Chengdu and Chongqing, with a population of 1.1 million; and
WHEREAS, both the Qinhuangdao and Nanchong Foreign Affairs Offices have stated they have a shortage of disposable gowns and medical facemasks and they have requested our assistance in obtaining them; and
WHEREAS, Toledo Sister Cities International is accepting donations of money and disposable gowns and medical facemasks for Qinhuangdao and Nanchong as they battle the coronavirus; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That Toledo City Council encourages Toledoans to support Toledo Sister Cities International in obtaining disposable gowns and medical facemasks for Qinhuangdao and Nanchong, China as they battle the coronavirus.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after the earliest date allowed by law.
