Recognizing winners from the 75th Annual AIA High School Design Competition
Summary
SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:
WHEREAS, The AIA is the American Institute of Architects, which founded a branch in Toledo in 1914, and has grown to serve 19 counties in the Northwest Ohio region; and
WHEREAS, AIA is the largest design organization in the world, working to transform the practices of architecture to achieve a zero-carbon, resilient, healthy, just, and equitable built environment in the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, for 75 years, AIA Toledo has been hosting an annual design competition in area high schools that helps students refine their architectural skills and complete thoughtful, useful design projects for local agencies; and
WHEREAS, this year, the High School Design Competition focused on creating designs for a 4,000 square foot Learning Center addition to the Aurora Project at 1035 N Superior St.; and
WHEREAS, the competition included 68 projects this year, from students representing 18 different schools, and included awards for Material Innovation, Sustainable Design, Landscape Architecture, Lighting Design, Digital Media, Urban Design, 3D Printed Modelling, and University Scholarships were awarded to several lucky students; and
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo that:
SECTION 1: We recognize AIA Toledo, their many partner organizations, and the student award winners, for work that engages the community with innovative architectural design, in their 75th year of conducting this excellent competition.
