Recognizing University of Toledo Rocket Women’s Softball team for their claim to the Mid-American Conference Tournament title.
Summary
WHEREAS, the University of Toledo’s Women’s Softball team claimed the first Mid-American Conference Tournament title in the program’s history on Saturday, May 11, 2019, and earn an automatic qualifier spot in the NCAA Regionals; and
WHEREAS, the Rockets won seven of the last ten games to earn the No. 7 seed; the lowest seed in MAC Tournament history to win the softball title; and
WHEREAS, the Rockets beat the No. 1 seed Miami and No. 3 seed Ohio in a doubleheader en route to claiming the title; and
WHEREAS, Sophomore Erin Hunt who tossed 37.1 innings with four complete games, striking out 28 batters over the four day tournament, earned a spot on the All-Tournament team and was named Tournaments’ Most Valuable Player; she was joined on the All-Tournament team by UT’s seniors Katie Cozy and Kaitlyn Bergman; and
WHEREAS, the team of 22 led by first season Head Coach Joe Abraham who feels playing one game at a time, discussing expectations on and off the field; stating, “…go out there and constantly try to do your best and the goals will take care of themselves”; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That we recognize the University of Toledo Rocket Women’s Softball team for their claim to the Mid-American Conference Tournament title.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
