Body

Referral Response:

A new ADA signal and high-visibility crosswalks will be installed at Steel/S. Marina drive, and the intersection sidewalk approach will be widened. Additionally, two new midblock crossings with pedestrian hybrid beacons will be added: one on Front Street at Morrison Drive and another on Front Street between Dearborn Avenue and the entrance to Tribute Park. These are not traditional traffic signals - they remain dark until actuated by a pedestrian who wishes to cross the road, at which point the signal will direct motorists to slow and come to a stop. This allows pedestrians a dedicated safe crossing interval when needed without affecting traffic flow when not in use.

There is an existing signal at Front and Broadway, which will be upgraded for ADA accessibility. The existing crosswalks at that intersection will also be upgraded to high-visibility crosswalks. Additionally, the entrance to Glass City Metropark at East Broadway Street and Riverside Drive will be reconfigured to exit-only. The other major safety feature that will be added is a median with pedestrian refuge islands, which will be added along the length of the Front St corridor from Main to the Craig Bridge.
