SUMMARY & BACKGROUND:
Ordinance No. 468-24 authorized the appropriation and expenditure of up to $200,000 for the Roots Air Blowers Project. This project involves the rebuild and/or replacement of proprietary parts and equipment associated with two existing Roots air blowers in the Main Equipment Building at the Bay View Water Reclamation Plant (Plant). The Project originally included the rebuild of all bearings for the two air blowers, however, the work scope increased following discussions with Tomlin Equipment Company, the local authorized representative and supplier of Roots proprietary parts and equipment and services in Northern Ohio. The Division of Water Reclamation (Division) was informed the seals would need to be replaced as they could not be rebuilt. These air blowers are massive machines housed in the Main Equipment Building at the Plant, and are used to provide 33,333 cubic foot per minute (cfm) each of outside air to the activated sludge system in the Secondary Treatment Facility. The activated sludge system is considered to be the heart of the Bay View Water Reclamation Plant. These air blowers were installed in 2007 and have not been rebuilt or upgraded since then.
