Designating a portion of Indiana Ave. “Annise Lofton Way”.
Summary
WHEREAS, Annise Lofton spent the majority of his adult life in the City of Toledo where he dedicated his time and talents and served his community for over sixty three years; and
WHEREAS, Annise, along with his wife Mary, purchased their home in the 1600 Block of Indiana Ave. in 1960 where over decades they greatly impacted their neighborhood by spreading positivity and creating a sense of community often opening up their home and hearts to the neighborhood’s children, first responders, educational professionals, local businesses and more; and
WHEREAS, after serving in the U.S. Armed Services and retiring from years of local employment, the Loftons decided to purchase a vacant lot adjacent to the TARTA Bus Stop on Indiana and Brown, transforming the lot into a garden where each year the garden grew in abundance and the Loftons gave away fresh produce, free of charge, to the community; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That this Council does hereby recognize the legacy of Annise Lofton to the Toledo community and designates the 1600 Block of Indiana Ave., from Smead Ave. to Brown Ave., as “Annise Lofton Way”.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
