Title
Urging the Ohio General Assembly and the United States Senate to Support Senate Bill 305 and House Bill 502 that strengthens access to SNAP, TANF, and WIC Programs, and Ensures food security for Ohio families.
Summary
WHEREAS, food insecurity continues to affect thousands of families across the City of Toledo, the State of Ohio, and the United States, with many households struggling to afford nutritious and sufficient meals; and
WHEREAS, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Woman, Infants, and Children (WIC), are vital federal initiatives that provides nutrition benefits to low-income individuals and families to supplement their food budget and move toward self-sufficiency; and
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 305 and House Bill 502 have been introduced to strengthen and protect these programs by improving access, modernizing eligibility, and ensuring that Ohio residents, especially children, seniors, and working families, do not go hungry; and
WHEREAS, Toledo is committed to the health, dignity, and well-being of all residents, recognizing that access to food is a fundamental human right and essential to the success of families and communities; and
WHEREAS, supporting this legislation aligns with the City of Toledo's efforts to address poverty, promote equity, and expand access to resources that help residents thrive; and
WHEREAS, local governments across Ohio and the nation have recognized the importance of food security and have expressed support for federal and state measures that strengthen nutrition assistance programs and prevent hunger;
NOW THEREFORE, Be it resolved that:
