RESPONSE:
Law Department attorneys handle the vast majority of legal matters in which the City is involved. That said, occasionally we hire outside counsel for various matters in which we may have a conflict of interest, lack subject matter expertise, or when it would be too time-consuming to pull attorneys away from the steady stream of daily obligations we address.
With that context provided, the City has incurred the following outside counsel fees:
