We could purchase up to 3 remounted ambulances which would include a new 2-person cab and 2-WD chassis. The current cost of each is $265,000 for the ambulance and then would need to purchase new Stryker power cot, power load and radio equipment for each rig for an additional $125,000. This would total $1,170,000.
I would recommend using 993, 995, and 997 as the 3 units to be remounted. Those are all 2012 transports with an excess of 200,000 miles each.
The other option would be to purchase 1 fire engine. The cost of a new engine would be $1,100,000. To supply the rig with equipment including MDT, radios, headsets, fire hose, hand tools and other equipment would be an additional $100,000. This would total $1,200,000.
I would recommend replacing engine 5 (6 years old with 60,000 miles). It would then replace engine 11 (11 years old with 205,813 miles) which would become a reserve rig. Then, one of the current reserve rigs (19 years old with 258,919 miles) could become a dedicated engine for the training bureau.
